Be it for professional or personal reasons portrait and lifestyle photography, and photoshoots can be fun! They are also a great way to build confidence whether you are wanting to start, enlarge, update or diversify a portfolio, or simply to create a few photographs of a family fun day or explore new themes.
My natural photojournalistic style leads me away from the studio into the client's preferred environment - their home, garden, woodland, derelict industrial site, the seaside, office or city centre.
Perhaps, surprisingly, most clients feel much more at ease and relaxed when photoshoots take place outside of the studio enclosure, even if they end up shooting in a public space. I consider that the background environment of the location sets the context of the pictures, adding a dynamic or a realism that greatly enhances the photographs.
What's great about getting away from the studio is the added element of risk that a changing environment gives. Clearly, this is not appropriate in every case, but everybody becomes more alive and open to the creative possibilities on offer, which can turn into some wonderful, 'edgey' images.
If you are considering a photoshoot for:
then please contact me for a no-obligation chat about what you want to achieve, the theme, purpose, location, practicalities and such like.
Speaking of practicalities, you will need to consider, where appropriate, such things as hair, make-up, clothes, props and such like. If needed I can arrange for help in these areas, but you will need to cover the cost.
Family, portrait, and lifestyle shoots are generally not studio based but, more usually, take place in an environment that suits and reflects your or a family's personality - the way you live life! It's not all hay bales and cornfields, I'll join you for just part of a day out in the park, mysterious woods, urban setting, by the wild or sandy coast and capture images of you alone or interacting with each other having fun. And, if you have one, don't forget to bring the dog!
I prefer to use natural light where possible, but will always bring the minimum lighting to ensure a sucessful outcome.
Working outside of the studio enables the use of evnironments, ambience and backdrops that are not convincingly reproduced inside a studio. You may suggest your own locations anywhere in the UK, although I have a number of locations in and around Cambridge and East Anglia to suggest.
A typical half day out with all full-resolution edited images on DVD would be about £350, but it's always best to give me a call to agree a fixed price. Why not create a Coffee Table book? These start from £75 for a 50-page, hardback book and provides a wonderful memento for your own family and are a great gift idea for grandparents and close relatives. Travel expenses will be chargeable for distances outside of Cambridge.
Costs for make-up, hair styling, clothes, accessories and so on, are not included. In all likelihood you'll prefer to manage these yourself, but if you have any difficulty, please let me know - I have contacts with whom you can deal direct!
